Bikepacking in Colombia: Suesca to Villa de Leyva

Updated: Feb 19

This is a beautiful MTB ride, a 50mi (80km) journey through the savanna, it is the perfect choice for those who want to enjoy a great landscape without dealing so much with the mountains. It starts in Suesca, a famous town for its cliffs and great mountain climbing spots. We will go through several towns of Boyaca, sprouting along the potato and yucca fields, until we reach the beautiful town of Villa de Leyva, famous for its huge plaza and restaurants that have emerged as the town becomes more attractive for visitors.

On the second day, you can enjoy a nice cultural day in Villa de Leyva and Sutamarchan, or keep the adventure going with a great hike to Iguaque Lagoon. This lagoon is sacred to the Muisca culture, as according to their cosmogony, Bachue, mother of the Muisca people came out of this lagoon with a child in her arms and started populating the earth.
